Ella’s Equestrian-Inspired Nursery

Designing a nursery was one thing I was really excited about during my pregnancy. I knew that I wanted to create a relaxing, neutral space that would transition well as our daughter grew. Over the past few months, we’ve enjoyed spending time in this equestrian-inspired space with out little girl!

When I first saw this adorable “Horse Tales” wallpaper from Katie Bourne Interiors, I knew it would be perfect starting point.

After agonizing over the colorway choices, I ended up selecting the white base to give the nursery a clean, bright feel.

This whimsical pony wallpaper print features a “dusty rose” hue that is just the right shade of muted pink and creates the most perfect accent wall behind our upholstered crib. We opted for the Pottery Barn Blythe Crib in Vintage Gray.

The crochet horse mobile was something I had saved on Pinterest years before. So, when I was putting the nursery together I just had to track down the source! We decided that positioning the mobile above the chair was a good location (since we had planned for the baby to initially sleep in our room) for the baby to enjoy while we were rocking in the glider. Ella absolutely loves to watch the ponies go around!

My husband helped me (read: carried all the heavy boxes, did just about all of the assembly, and installed the shelving units while I took a nap at 8 months pregnant) to redesign the closet space. After removing the old rod, I color matched the dusty rose in the wallpaper for just the right accent color within the interior of the closet. I customized the Ikea PAX system to create more functional storage, adding a few drawers and extra shelving.

I opted for the Ikea Hemnes dresser due to its ample storage and affordability, but dressed it up with leather and brass knobs I sourced from Etsy. The woven changing basket adds some texture while being super functional to contain a wiggling baby!

One of the top drawers holds essentials like diapers and wipes so that I can keep the surfaces relatively clutter free.

Well before I was pregnant, I fell in love with the illustrations from Charlie Mackesy. One of his sweet prints sits framed behind my childhood “Misty”:

“Always remember you matter, you’re important and you are loved, and you bring to this world things no one else can.”

A special thank you to the insanely talented Shannon Moffit Photography for capturing these beautiful images of our little Ella. We will treasure these photos of those hazy newborn days for ever and ever!
